Closing the Gaps
After years working in the Federal Government, Kevin knew where he stood. He could see the gaps in his own résumé and knew that more education was the way to close them. Enrolling with Future Forward CT and SNHU was an easy decision, and the competency-based structure fit how he wanted to learn.
His mentor made the difference from the start.
"My mentor was amazing and an absolute partner in my educational journey."
The Real Obstacle
The hardest part was not the coursework. It was the self-doubt, and the running story that he was too busy to see it through. Having a mentor to work through that mattered more than any single assignment, and being part of a cohort meant he was never doing it alone.
Two Hours a Day, Seven Days a Week
Kevin's biggest takeaway was a system and the discipline to hold himself to it. He committed to two hours of study every day without exception, and made himself a deal: no Netflix until he was done.
"I promised myself not to watch a single Netflix show until I was done, and I have been faithful to myself."
Every mastered competency paid that time back. And when a "Not Yet Mastered" came in, he took it as a reason to keep going rather than a reason to stop.
What He's Most Proud Of
For Kevin, the pride was not just in the credential itself, but in the commitment behind it.
"I am most proud of keeping my promise to myself. This means everything to me."
What Comes Next
Finishing gave him momentum rather than a finish line. He is now working toward his bachelor's and already scouting master's programs, excited about what is ahead whether in private enterprise or a return to government. He also wants to be useful to the students coming behind him.
His Advice
He starts with a question: how bad do you want it?
"Future Forward CT will meet your energy and enthusiasm and soar with you with every support possible to see you succeed."
